The Powerful Bond Between Dogs and Humans

Elvis - ALYSSA SCHUKAR/THE WORLD-HERALD

Here’s an amazing story about a powerful bond shared between a dog and his human companion that seems to transcend death.

Judy Gustas suffered from cancer, and her beloved dog Elvis had spent a lot of time sharing a bed and comforting her. When Judy died, he was adopted by a nurse who had cared for her during her illness. On the first night in his new home though, Elvis bolted out of the house and disappeared. Incredibly, he turned up near the church where Judy’s funeral had been held, despite the fact that he’d never been to that part of Omaha before.

There are many questions as to how Elvis ended up near the church. He had never been taken to that church or that part of town, and it wasn’t Judy’s church; it was her sister’s.

We’ve all heard the stories of dogs that have traveled great distances to reunite with owners, or dogs that sit at owners’ grave sites. Whatever brought Elvis to the church remains a mystery, but I like to think that the bonds that we share transcend beyond all that we share on Earth.♥
