Dogs Get Skin Cancer Too

Bear, Zoey, PirateGiven the fact that my mom just underwent treatment for some pre-cancerous spots, I want to share some skin cancer information about dogs…and cats too!

Just because we’re covered in fur does NOT mean that we aren’t susceptible to skin cancer. Yes that’s right, dogs and cats can get skin cancer. Certain breeds of dogs are at higher risk, and dogs with thin coats, and/or light colored fur are at even greater risk of developing skin cancers over their entire bodies due to sun exposure. That’s something I’m well aware of…we’re 3 for 3 around here! Even our favorite window to “sun in” is tinted to protect us from the UVA’s!

The sun isn’t the only culprit that causes skin cancer though, so I’m sharing this fa*bull*ous article, Dogs and Skin Cancer, which will make you aware of the types of skin cancer, help you spot the signs/symptoms, and inform you of the treatment options that are available.

It’s important to know that when caught early, many dog and cat skin cancers can be treated successfully. Know the facts and protect your best friend, and yourself too!

You don’t want to be a vampire like my mom…staying out of the sun, and taking pictures of the moon!!
