The Biggest Lesson Learned

“…he will be your friend for always and always and always.” -Rudyard Kipling

Some people write books, some write informational manuals, some write all you need to know about canine cancer. I wrote a blog to help me through Cain’s cancer. The experience has been a huge lesson for me. In it I have a renewed awareness for love and friendship, companionship and loyalty and everything in between. It has not been an easy journey and one that I didn’t always pepper with positive acceptance. I wrote from my heart, figuring their was a hidden lesson that I would learn later down the road.

Someone said I should write a book about cancer and what I learned. I’ll leave that up to specialists and research as I’m no doctor and know little more than when I started. What I do know is this. Life can change at any moment and it most certainly will. Did cancer teach me this? No. A very special dog, with a very special gift came into my life for a very special reason. I was charging along, without a care in the world when this slapped me across the face but my courageous dog taught me the meaning of acceptance and living in the moment. You can plan for tomorrow, but it might not come. Seize each moment, relish it, breathe. For a sick as Cain was at the end, he still tried to make me happy and with every exhausting breath, he moved forward, moment by moment.
